Real Bad Mommies LOVE those double standards!
My kids were always yelling to me from wherever they were in the house. I got tired of it, so I came up with what I thought was a good policy. "I'm in the kitchen if you want to talk to me," I told them.
This worked great, until they started telling me, "I'm in the backyard if you want to talk to me." I had to explain that it really doesn't go both ways. I still don't think they get it.

OOh. Thanks for the heads up that this technique might backfire. I have just recently started that same technique. It makes me crazy to communicate through yelling from room to room. My kids haven't used it back at me, though. And, really, they still yell. Here's hoping for another solution.

LOL! In our house, I'm the one who can't remember the "rule:" don't shout from the other room - go to where the person is.
I am FOREVER shouting from the other room and getting frustrated when no one hears me. :-)
